It’s all about the ‘-‘ Dash
We prepare for the birth of a newborn, and we mark the end as we celebrate the life that was. What about the ‘-‘ dash in the middle.

Death within the Aboriginal Culture
Death or ‘sorry business’ within the Aboriginal Culture is a truly shared and community experience. Do the indigenous cultures around the world, including here in Australia, have something the teach us?

Suddenly they’re not there……
No more beach walks, no more going out together, no more sharing a bottle of wine. Once the person was there, and now they are not; forever. How do you support someone through the ‘no mores.’

Funerals and memorials – the words we use
Why do we use the word wake? It seems quite a strange word to use given the circumstances. The funeral industry, like other industries, has a language all of its own.

Should we bring the children to the Funeral?

I just need a bit of normal!
Yes carers need compassion, empathy and listening. But they also need some normal! It will keep them sane through the tragedy.

Memorialising a loved one
How do we memoralise someone who has died? Burial plot, mausoleums, ashes? Is there a further way to memorialise, and leave a positive legacy?

It happened without warning!
When death happens without warning, the shock and disbelief are unbearable.

I feel so guilty – I did not treat them so well
“They have died. I did not treat them so well. And the guilt is unbearable. What am I going to do?”

The final little pieces with a deceased estate. The trick is to let people know who need to know. They are often very helpful.
